On Day One, Biden Sets American Economy, Energy Security Back Decades

New commander-in-chief calls for unity then gives American energy workers and families the shaft.

WASHINGTON DC (January 20, 2020) – The American Energy Alliance (AEA) is the country’s premier pro-consumer, pro-taxpayer, and free-market energy organization. Thomas Pyle, AEA’s president, released the following statement in response to President Joe Biden’s decision to rescind the permit for the Keystone pipeline, reenter the U.S. into the Paris Agreement, and order his agencies to immediately begin to unravel President Trump’s pro-consumer regulatory reforms.

“My mother taught me to judge people by their actions, not their words. Today, President Biden read a nice speech calling for unity then immediately signed a flurry of executive actions that thumbed his nose at half of the country and squarely took aim at affordable energy, the families that benefit from it, and the American workers who produce it.

“The Keystone pipeline is nearly completely built and an important link for North America’s economic security. The decision today to rescind the permit makes it crystal clear that Mr. Biden stands with the extreme green lobby and not average Americans.

“The Paris Agreement is fool’s errand. Nearly every signatory to the agreement is falling short of their commitment and even if they were on track, it would do virtually nothing to change our climate. The economic inactivity as a result of the COVID lockdowns this past year is merely a fraction of what Paris would require of the U.S. Meanwhile, China will increase their emissions and continue to do what is in their strategically best interest. Even James Hansen, the godfather of climate alarmism, has called the Paris Accord a fraud.

“If Joe Biden truly seeks to unify our nation, he’s off to a terrible start.”
